Another man soon to make the move from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United could be Marcos Rojo‘s fellow defender Mauricio.
The 26-year old claimed to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte that United contacted his people during the summer.
United have built a good relationship with Sporting Lisbon over the past decade and it appears that could be tested again in the near future.
Rojo joined from the Portuguese side in the summer following in the foot steps over Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani, the latter returning to the club on a loan deal in August.
“They (Manchester United) sought my manager, Carlos Goncalves,” Mauricio said this week.
“But I am a centred, focused and very calm person. It was not a certain thing. Here at Sporting people like me very much and I am very happy.”
The Brazilian centre-back only joined the Lisbon club in the summer of 2013 on a five-year deal so it would command a fairly large fee if Louis van Gaal wanted to take him away from the Portuguese side.
United are certainly going to be in the market f or a new centre-back in the upcoming transfer windows so expect there to be plenty of other defenders linked with a move to Old Trafford.
An interesting point to note is that whilst playing for Palmeiras in Brazil, Mauricio was shown a straight red card for fighting with a team mate on the field in a championship match against Gremio. Mauricio would soon join Gremio in a loan deal before finally leaving Brazil for Portugal in 2012.
