Manchester United are set to have several players returning from injury in time for their trip to West Brom on Monday, reports The Mirror.
Ander Herrera is likely to be available for selection after his rib injury wasn’t as serious as initially feared while the likes of Michael Carrick and Phil Jones could also make their return to the first team squad, with the former yet to make a competitive first-team appearance this season.
The Spanish midfielder was expected to be sidelined for up to a month with a fractured rib he suffered against West Ham and given how influential he had been for United in September, it was going to have a big impact so an early return is exactly what Louis van Gaal would have wanted. That being said, it’s unlikely he would be rushed back and risked as United play Chelsea the following week.
As for Carrick, he could be the experienced figurehead which United need in midfield to bring a real calming presence and control which hasn’t quite been there this season.
Defensively, the return of Jones and Smalling will give Van Gaal some options at the back as with both McNair and Evans injured. United’s choice of defenders was looking very thin.
Slowly but surely, United’s injury problems will hopefully subside and the return of so many first team players would certainly be a major positive.
