Antonio Valencia suffers hamstring injury as problems for Manchester United continue

Antonio Valencia has become the latest injury concern for Manchester United after tweaking his hamstring, the Daily Mail reports.

The midfielder suffered the injury against Everton and while it may not be serious, it is likely to rule him out of United’s trip to West Brom on Monday.

Prior to the start of the international break United’s injury concerns seemed to be improving but fresh problems for Paddy McNair and now Valencia, who have both suffered hamstring injuries, are more blows to Louis van Gaal‘s squad depth.

Valencia was utilised as an emergency central midfielder against Everton last weekend and unless Michael Carrick or Ander Herrera return from injury quicker than expected, he’ll have to turn to Darren Fletcher who, as fantastic as his recovery has been, is some way short of being able to marshal a midfield like he once did, or potentially even Anderson.

Youngsters Andreas Pereira, Joe Rothwell and Ben Pearson are three other options Van Gaal could use if he decided to give another youngster a first-team opportunity.

Hearing of another injury is becoming an all too familiar feeling for United fans and although Valencia’s injury is believed not to be serious, it raises further questions about whether something is going wrong.

Van Gaal bringing in a new fitness coach from Southampton a few weeks ago suggests he feels something needs to change and with United sitting atop the injury table so far this season, it does suggest that is the case.
