Manchester United have provisionally agreed personal terms with Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar over a move to Old Trafford, ESPN report.
Miguel Delaney reports Villa want in the region of £12m price tag if Vlaar was to move in January despite the fact his contract runs out at the end of the season.
Vlaar was a rock at the heart of the Netherlands defence at the World Cup under Louis van Gaal and with defence proving such a problem area for United this season thanks to multiple injuries, Van Gaal is looking to improve his defensive options.
Given that United were linked with the likes of Mats Hummels, Mehdi Benatia and Ezequiel Garay during the summer, a move for Vlaar would almost seem like Van Gaal settling that he couldn’t land his primary target.
That being said, if Van Gaal was able to sign Vlaar for a cut price given the situation with his contract, it would give United an experienced head in defence which it is currently lacking.
