West Brom vs Manchester United: Potential 4-4-2 – Herrera and Thorpe start

With the international break coming to an end, it’s not long before Manchester United are back in action after what has seemed like an eternity following a 2-1 win over Everton.

A trip to the Hawthorns awaits Louis van Gaal‘s side and in our usual weekly series taking a look at the potential starting XI’s for the upcoming game, this one is very difficult to predict.

Reports suggest Ander Herrera, Michael Carrick, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling could all be fit to return but would Van Gaal risk any of them?

Our first potential XI brings Herrera straight back into the team having missed out on United’s last game against West Ham but the second problem lies at centre-back.

Van Gaal has already made it clear he doesn’t want to play two left-footed centre-backs alongside each other so who starts with Marcos Rojo now that Paddy McNair is injured?

We’ve gone for Tom Thorpe as putting Jones or Smalling back into the team would be a bigger risk than giving Thorpe, the U21s captain and Mr. Reliable, an opportunity just like he did with McNair.

What do you think of this formation? Will Van Gaal risk Herrera and/or Thorpe against West Brom?
