Top 10 strikers in the world 2004-2014: Rooney, Van Persie, Berbatov and Ronaldo on the list

Manchester United are very well represented in Opta’s Top 10 strikers in the past 10 years in the Top 5 European Leagues.

Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are on the list as well as Cristiano Ronaldo and surprise package Dimitar Berbatov, a player not many would have expected to see on the list.

There’s no surprises to see Ronaldo and Messi fighting for the No.1 spot and both are tied on 349 goals and assists, although Messi has played 47 less games than Ronaldo.

It’s Berbatov’s inclusion which is most interesting. Few would have guessed Berbatov was going to feature on the list but what it does show is beyond all the criticism that was launched at him during his United career, he’s been a very good goalscorer for the last decade.

As for Van Persie, you’d expect to see him on there. It didn’t take him very long to score 50 goals at United and hopefully he’ll continue doing the same soon enough.
