Paddy McNair could return for Manchester United next week after hamstring injury rules him out of West Brom

Louis van Gaal has told MUTV Paddy McNair‘s injury isn’t too serious but is likely to rule him out for a week, meaning he would miss United’s trip to West Brom as well as the U21s game against West Ham United.

The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes in both of United’s recent 2-1 victories over West Ham and Everton but having injured his hamstring at the start of the international break, he’s not fit to play against West Brom.

That being said, McNair was not likely to play anyway because Louis van Gaal has repeatedly made it clear he doesn’t enjoy playing two left-footed centre-backs alongside each other in defence and Marcos Rojo would get the nod ahead of him.

It’s good news to hear McNair will not be ruled out for any substantial period of time because it shouldn’t set him back too far given his impressive recent form with the senior side.

McNair exceeded expectations in his first two appearances and will be itching to get straight back into the team because he knows he’ll move down the pecking order once again if he’s sidelined for too long.
