Januzaj, 19, has had to settle for a place on the periphery of Louis van Gaal‘s United as the arrival of Angel di Maria forced him down the pecking order, just like it has for Mata.
The rise of Januzaj last season was one of the only bright sparks and Mata is confident that, so long as he can continue in the same vein, Januzaj will become a superstar.
“I have really good team-mates at Manchester United, like Rooney, but I was surprised by Januzaj (when I arrived at Old Trafford),” he said.
“He is great. I can see every day that has a unique left foot. He must have patience but if he has it we will be talking about an extraordinary player.”
High praise indeed from Mata and he wouldn’t say that about Januzaj for no reason, he chooses his words carefully. Fans share the same sentiment about Januzaj and the club does too otherwise he wouldn’t have been handed the No.11 shirt.
The problem for any player at a top club is how difficult it can be to get game time. Mata is a 26-year-old, established World Cup winning midfielder yet he has had to settle for a place on the bench a lot of the time too, but he’s getting his opportunities now with Wayne Rooney out suspended.
At some point this season, Januzaj will get his opportunities. All he can do is wait for them and grab them with both hands when given to him.
