Michael Carrick part of Manchester United’s squad to face West Brom after returning from injury – report

Michael Carrick has travelled with Manchester United’s squad to face West Brom having been passed fit by medical staff, the Daily Mail reports.

The 33-year-old isn’t expected to start tonight or even potentially feature on the bench but it’s a big step simply to have him back in the squad at all.

Carrick has missed the entire season so far after undergoing ankle surgery earlier in the year and Louis van Gaal has bemoaned his absence after admitting United needed somebody to add balance back into the side.

With Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Angel di Maria playing so well going forward, Van Gaal is unlikely to change the personnel when players are fit but having the option to bring Carrick on in order to slow a game down to give United more control over it is something that Van Gaal will be pleased about.

This season has seen United suffer more with injuries than any other Premier League team so far, bar maybe Arsenal, so it’s good to hear about a player closing in on his return rather than the other way around for once.
