International breaks are almost always an inconvenience and Manchester United being handed a Monday night fixture against West Brom only made the wait that little bit longer.
Now, finally, United are back in action in what will be the first of three incredibly important fixtures for the make-up of this season.
A tricky away game to West Brom is followed up less than a week later by Chelsea at Old Trafford before a quick trip across town to the Etihad Stadium will see Louis van Gaal face Manchester City in his first derby as Manchester United boss.
United went into the international break in good form and are looking to make it three wins on the trot away at The Hawthorns today but it won’t be an easy match by any stretch of the imagination.
Saido Berahino is one of the Premier League’s most in-form strikers so David de Gea will have to be on top form once again but he should be brimming with confidence as he made his full Spain debut last week after earning his place with a super performance against Everton. That will certainly be one of the most interesting battles during the game as Berahino is likely to test the Spaniard on more than one occasion.
The key battle for United going forward is Angel di Maria vs the whole West Brom defence. His incisive passing, sharp movement and electric pace make it almost impossible for one defender to stop him, so West Brom will have to be at their best to keep the Argentinian quiet.
As for a team selection, here’s how we think United will line-up: De Gea, Rafael, Rojo, Jones, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Mata, Falcao, Van Persie.
The all-important question is obviously what we think the score will be. West Brom will be no pushover but United have shown in the past few games that it is almost impossible to stop their attack. We think United will prove too strong for West Brom.
