Juan Mata‘s statistics are relatively impressive given the short time he’s been at Manchester United.
United’s new No.8 is popular among the supporters and given the vitriol shown to Wayne Rooney, most were craving for the little Spaniard to do well in the captain’s absence.
Adnan Januzaj too is a popular figure given his impressive first season in a United shirt but both failed to fulfil their potential on Monday night.
Mata cut a lonely figure at times at The Hawthorns. He got into the right positions but just couldn’t impose himself on the game. With just one more opportunity to impress before Rooney returns from his ban, Mata may have played himself out of the game as his former employers prepare to come to Old Trafford on Sunday.
Juan Mata didn't manage to get involved, Robin van Persie doesn't look fit and I thought Adnan Januzaj tried too hard.

Januzaj too struggled to impress and at times looked as if the young Belgian was trying too hard to impress on his first start of the season.
Given the impact the winger had during a dreadful campaign for the club last season, his frustration at the lack of playing time under Louis van Gaal is understandable but both were under par in the 2-2 draw.
Either Januzaj or Mata need to come off for Falcao. Neither has done much to suggest they deserve a lot of playing time once Rooney returns.

Robin was poor today, as was Januzaj. Rojo shaky at the back. #MatchdayMac

But there was the odd supportive tweet for key members of the squad in the hope that both, particularly Mata, are just going through a bad period of form right now.
Mata can be a beautiful player to watch but needs to do more. Really hope he finds some form soon.
