Luke Shaw confident his performances will improve at Manchester United

Luke Shaw knows his performances haven’t lived up to his pricetag yet at Manchester United but is confident he will get better over time.

The 19-year-old was brought to Old Trafford for the best part of £30m which made him one of the most expensive young players United have ever signed.

Big pressure came with that price and so far Shaw hasn’t been able to deliver the performances to reflect it but it hasn’t dampened his confidence.

“I know I haven’t been up to my full potential and I think maybe people can see that at the moment,” Shaw said.

“They haven’t seen the best of me yet.

“I am trying hard and it’s about getting used to everything. When you come to a club like this it’s never easy for a young player like me. But I’ll get myself starting soon and put in good performances.

“I wouldn’t say I’ve been horrendous but I know I can do much better. And I need to do better. I’ve come to Manchester United and I know what they need. I’ve been working hard and the performances will come.”

Unfortunately for Shaw, his aggressive positioning last night against West Brom gave Wisdom plenty of space to run into on the left flank and his cross was met by Sessegnon for the first goal.

Everybody hoped Shaw would be able to settle into life straight away at Old Trafford but some players take longer to adapt to their surroundings, look no further than the case of a re-born Marouane Fellaini after his performance last night.

Of course, it isn’t just Shaw who has been under-performing as there have only been glimmers of a strong United and going into the Chelsea game on Sunday, United are up against it: “No not yet,” Shaw said when asked if the best of United had been seen.

“It’s a long season so we’ll have to see what happens. We’re going to work hard this week and be ready for the challenge on Sunday. It’s a massive test. They’re flying at the moment.”
