Player Ratings: West Brom 2-2 Manchester United – Di Maria on top but Van Persie flops

by Richard Laverty

David De Gea 6 Didn’t have a great deal to think about and could do very little about two excellent finishes from Sessegnon and Berahino.

Rafael 5 Not one of his finer nights, struggled to get forward and influence the attack as he sometimes does and was caught out for the second goal.

Phil Jones 5 Won several aerial battles but had the usual mad moment that comes with a few weeks out, caught up field allowing Berahino to run in and score the second goal.

Marcos Rojo 6 Looked uncomfortable in one on one situations but doesn’t lack confidence in the tackle, not the worst night for the Argentine.

Luke Shaw 5 Caught out of position for the opening goal but settled down later in the game. Had little protection at the back.

Daley Blind 7 Was perhaps lucky to escape an earlier booking but his passing was accurate as ever and popped up with a lovely finish at a crucial time.

Ander Herrera 3 A poor game for the Spaniard but playing with a fractured rib can’t be easy. Looked uncomfortable and was replaced at half-time by Fellaini.

Juan Mata 3 Should have stamped his authority on the no.10 spot in Rooney’s absence but it was another poor game from the midfielder. Created nothing and was very rarely in the game.

Angel Di Maria 7 United’s shining light once again. Di Maria always looked like making something happen, his pinpoint crosses were there to be finished and looked a class above his team mates.

Adnan Januzaj 4 Looked like he was trying too hard to impress on his first start of the season and didn’t show the flair of last season. A forgetful night for the teenager.

Robin van Persie 3 Another under par performance from the striker. Bar hitting the post, van Persie looked uninterested at times, won the ball back well in the first half but failed to pick out a free Mata.

Marouane Fellaini 7 Has had his critics but Fellaini played well when he came on. Took his goal beautifully, his passing was accurate and he was strong in the tackle. A good night for the Belgian.

Radadel Falcao 5 Like his strike partner, Falcao failed to get on the ball in the crucial positions. Looked lively but need more from the Colombian.

Ashley Young 4 Didn’t have a great deal of time to make an impact, looked to threaten but end product wasn’t quite there.
