Rafael overlooked again by Brazil coach Dunga for upcoming internationals

by Sam Peoples

Rafael has once again been overlooked by Brazil boss Carlos Dunga for their upcoming friendly internationals against Turkey and Austria in November.

Despite Dani Alves and Maicon being absent from the squad for the foreseeable future, Dunga decided not to call Rafael up, a move which is especially strange given his recent resurgence in form with Manchester United.

Dunga has called up Danilo Luiz da Silva as a natural right-back in the squad but Rafael has every right to feel aggrieved that Dunga didn’t even give him a place in the squad at all.

It looks like a continuation of the fallout from Rafael’s poor performance in the London 2012 Olympics final where he made a mistake to let Mexico score and they subsequently won the tournament. Since then, Rafael hasn’t been selected for his national team.

Rafael recently reiterated his ambition to get back into the national set-up but he will have to wait a little while longer at the very least.
