Victor Valdes has arrived in Manchester ahead of joining up with United’s first-team squad next week as part of his rehabilitation process to help him recover from injury.
The 32-year-old, who is currently a free agent, was offered the opportunity to train with Louis van Gaal and goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek who he played under during his time at FC Barcelona.
From United’s perspective, Valdes’ arrival doesn’t symbolise the impending departure of David de Gea and if anything, it’s positive to have Valdes around the club.
As he is another Spaniard, it will help the likes of Mata, Herrera and De Gea feel more at home and it should help De Gea continue improving as he won’t want to let his performances slip now that Valdes is part of the squad.

At this stage isn’t known whether Valdes’ arrival at Old Trafford is the prelude to a permanent Old Trafford move but for the time being, he will just be training with the first team squad.
