Player Ratings: Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea – Fellaini matches Fabregas and Matic

by Richard Laverty

David De Gea 7 United’s No.1 was solid throughout, claimed everything and made an excellent save from Hazard. Could do little about the resulting corner.

Rafael 5 Not disastrous but struggled to aid United attacks. Clumsy booking aside, it was a quiet afternoon for the right-back.

Chris Smalling 6 Came in out of the blue but had a solid match alongside Rojo, looked steady throughout and positioning was spot on.

Marcos Rojo 6 Needs to cut out some of the errors in his game but Rojo was strong in the tackle and looked slightly more settled than recent matches.

Luke Shaw 7 Probably the left-back’s most impressive game yet. Got forward well and was defensively solid. A positive match for the Chelsea supporter.

Daley Blind 7 Another game where Blind did the job he was given to the best of his abilities. One lapse in concentration in the first half could have cost United but marshalled Fabregas well alongside Fellaini.

Marouane Fellaini 7 Possibly Fellaini’s best performance in a United shirt. Tackled well, passed well and had a hand in van Persie’s equaliser. Has the Belgian finally turned a corner?

Adnan Januzaj 6 Januzaj looked more at home than he did on Monday night but end product was lacking bar one superb ball for van Persie. Looked threatening but lacked conviction.

Juan Mata 5 Another quiet game for the ex-Chelsea man. Passing was neat and tidy but missed a good opportunity before the break. Was subbed for James Wilson.

Angel Di Maria 6 A quieter game than usual but was still at the middle of most of United’s attacks. Final ball wasn’t as good as usual but provided one when needed at the death.

Robin van Persie 6 Would have been lower if not for his goal, looked more settled in the first half but seemed to tire towards the end before popping up at the crucial time.

James Wilson 5 United’s only sub didn’t have much chance to make an impact. One looping header aside it was a quiet introduction to the big games for the young striker.
