Sam Johnstone joins Doncaster Rovers on loan until January

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has joined Doncaster Rovers on a three month loan deal until January, the club has confirmed.

Johnstone spent time on loan at Doncaster last season and having not been named in Louis van Gaal‘s first team squad for this season, he has gone back to the League One side.

Back in September after the squad was officially announced, Johnstone hinted at a potential exit and the 21-year-old has now completed his move to Doncaster where he will remain until at least January.

United are spoilt for choice in the goalkeeping department at every level and as Ben Amos was chosen as third choice behind David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard, Johnstone felt a loan was best for him and it was certainly the right choice.

The arrival of Victor Valdes would make Johnstone’s chances of breaking through into the first team even harder and the only way he would succeed is with regular game time, so a loan spell will help him.
