Wayne Rooney injured ahead of Manchester City derby – report

Wayne Rooney has been injured during his extended his absence from first-team action and is now a doubt for the Manchester City game on Sunday, reports the Daily Telegraph.

The 29-year-old has missed Manchester United’s last three games against Chelsea, West Brom and Everton after being sent off against West Ham, so hasn’t played any competitive football in October.

Rooney has always been one of the most important players for United in derby games in recent years and his absence would be a massive blow for United, especially considering Radamel Falcao may not be fit to play either.

Over the course of his career, Rooney has always needed regular first-team action in order to maintain his match fitness so it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise if he has indeed suffered an injury over the past few weeks.

It would be typical of United to suffer yet another injury to an important first team player after a season in which injuries have continued to follow on from one another.
