Louis van Gaal nominated for FIFA World Coach of the Year

by Sam Peoples

Louis van Gaal has been named on a ten man shortlist for the 2014 FIFA World Coach of the Year award.

The Dutchman spearheaded Holland to a third placed finish at the World Cup having gone into the tournament as favourites to be eliminated at the group stage.

It was a fantastic over achievement from Van Gaal which included a 5-1 demolition of Spain who were World and European champions at the time and was the perfect prelude before he took over the full time job at Manchester United.

So far at Old Trafford, Van Gaal has had a mixed bag of results but his nomination for the award will be based upon his performances with Holland at the World Cup so his place on the list is richly deserved.

Here is the full list of nominees:

Carlo Ancelotti (Italy/Real Madrid CF), Antonio Conte (Italy/Juventus FC/Italy national team), Pep Guardiola (Spain/FC Bayern Munich), Juergen Klinsmann (Germany/ USA national team), Joachim Loew (Germany/Germany national team), Jose Mourinho (Portugal/Chelsea FC), Manuel Pellegrini (Chile/Manchester City FC), Alejandro Sabella (Argentina/Argentina national team), Diego Simeone (Argentina/Atletico Madrid), Louis van Gaal (Netherlands/Netherlands national team/Manchester United FC).
