Former Manchester United goalkeeper and Ajax director Edwin van der Sar admits the Dutch club are interested in Adnan Januzaj but feel they would be priced out of any move.
The 19-year-old was in great form against Chelsea last weekend and put himself firmly in contention to start against Manchester City on Sunday.
However, due to his lack of regular game time under Louis van Gaal, there have been suggestions of a potential loan move away but Van der Sar believes his wages would stop any approach from Ajax.
“Well, if you have the number of his agent: give it me with confidence. But I fear that we can’t pay his salary,” he said.
Van Gaal wants Januzaj in his first team squad otherwise he would have sent him out on loan in the summer but if he were to be available, Ajax certainly wouldn’t be the only club interested in him.
That being said, after his performance against Chelsea, Januzaj will be hoping to feature more regularly for United’s first-team but if he doesn’t, it does beg the question of whether a loan spell away would be the best solution for him in the short term.
