Manchester United’s injuries were easing off at one point a few weeks ago before the last international break but they have come back with a vengeance after it.
Wayne Rooney became the latest injury concern after multiple reports suggested he was a doubt for the City game while Radamel Falcao was already a doubt after missing United’s game against City last weekend.
However, the latest on the duo suggests they are winning the fight to be fit for Sunday which would put United in a much stronger position going to the Etihad.
Rooney comes alive in derby games and has scored three goals in his last two appearances at the Etihad. Rooney just seems to love scoring against City and United have certainly missed his presence in the last three games he was suspended as Juan Mata did little to suggest he deserves a place in the starting XI on Sunday.
As for Falcao, it’s a no brainer that his return to fitness would be a big boost for United. The Colombian was just finding his feet at the club and many saw Chelsea as a game where he could properly announce himself but a freak training injury ruled him out. In 2012, Van Persie scored a dramatic last minute winner on his derby debut. Could Falcao do the same this year?
As well as returning players, a full week of training will be great for Ander Herrera who needs to regain his full fitness as does Angel di Maria. Both players could play instrumental roles at the Etihad.
United need to be at full strength if they are going to come away from the Etihad with three points and the current state of affairs suggests most players should be able to return in time.
