Manchester United began the season using a 5-3-2 formation, switched to a 4-4-2 diamond after the new arrivals settled in and have recently started to use a more traditional 4-3-3.
Louis van Gaal‘s traditional formation is 4-3-3 but away from home against Manchester City, he may decide to set up with the 4-4-2 diamond which has served United well so far this season.
It’s all going to be down to what players are available. Daley Blind is a guaranteed starter as the anchor in the diamond and Marouane Fellaini is a shoe-in to start the derby, in this formation in a more advanced midfield position alongside Angel di Maria.
As for the attacking trio of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, it is one of the best in the world on paper and all United fans are chomping at the bit to see it firing on all cylinders.
So long as all are fit to start, that could happen on Sunday.
