Manchester United news: Double injury boost, Pellegrini worried about United and Rooney could return

by Sam Peoples

Here is the latest Manchester United chat including a double injury concern about David Silva and Yaya Toure which could be good news for United and Manuel Pellegrini admitting he is worried ahead of the derby this weekend.

In the build-up to the derby against City this weekend, it is the talk of the town and it has been heightened by City’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle last night. During the game, David Silva was substituted early with an injury problem while Yaya Toure had to be taken off at the hour mark and both now could miss the derby this weekend. Given how important the duo are to City, it could be a morale boost for United if they are missing.

After City’s second loss in succession, Manuel Pellegrini has admitted he is worried about City’s form going into the game against United. “We must address this as soon as possible,” he said. “We will try to react as soon as we can.”

The Daily Mail reports Wayne Rooney is expected to be fit and able to start against City this weekend. Just as much as the absence of Silva and/or Toure would hinder City, Rooney’s return would galvanise United because derby games are where he really comes alive as a player.

As it stands, United have the upper hand going into the game on Sunday from a mental perspective and ESPN believe victory at the Etihad could be the catalyst Louis van Gaal has been looking for this season. A draw against Chelsea last week was a real confidence booster but if United could come away with three points this weekend, it might be a big turning point for Van Gaal’s side.
