Radamel Falcao ready to announce himself onto the Premier League

Last week’s game against Chelsea was the perfect opportunity for Radamel Falcao to fully announce himself onto the Premier League.

The last time the Colombian played Chelsea, he scored a hat-trick in the UEFA Super Cup final. It could have been poetic but as it happened, he suffered an injury to his calf during training on Friday and subsequently had to watch from the stands.

It must have been equally as frustrating for Falcao as it was for fans that he had to miss the Chelsea game but football moves on and he could be presented with the perfect opportunity this Sunday to show what he is really made of.

Teams need their biggest players to perform in the biggest games and in recent years, City away has been one of the biggest on the calendar. It’s precisely the sort of game Louis van Gaal will want to see his best players step up in and United will need them to come away with a victory.

There have been flashes of brilliance from Falcao but fans are yet to be treated with the Colombian firing on all cylinders. If he is passed fit, this weekend could be when he does precisely that.

If there’s one way to endear yourself to the United faithful, it’s scoring against City or Liverpool away from home. Not that Falcao needs to win any more popularity contests, of course.

Falcao was brought in by Van Gaal to score goals and although he is yet to re-find his pre-injury form, you get the feeling the Colombian is close to turning the screw. When that happens, he can light up the Premier League and United will reap the rewards.
