Manchester United’s undisputed No.1 was again a key performer in a Manchester derby where the club’s threadbare defence came under serious pressure from the Premier League champions.
Despite the away side being down to ten men for the entirety of the second period, De Gea mainly shone between the sticks during the first half when the game was more stretched due to United’s willingness to attack their hosts before going a man down.
De Gea first thwarted Jesus Navas from close range before an even more impressive save from Sergio Aguero followed just minutes later. It’s a sight most fans have become used to from the Spanish international over the last few season and De Gea has already been crucial in salvaging points on his own for Louis van Gaal‘s team when the defence has let him down.
As ever, fans were quick to point to De Gea’s contribution for the scoreline remaining just 1-0 whilst Manchester City threw everything at De Gea’s penalty area.
What a save from De Gea

De Gea had started to come under a little bit of criticism after he conceded five goals at Leicester and four at MK Dons but he has hit his best form in recent weeks, making three sensational saves against Everton before thwarting Eden Hazard from close range last week.
The No.1’s latest saves can be added to a long line of impressive stops from his time at Old Trafford and fans will hope the club sort out a new deal for the goalkeeper sooner rather than later.
