Carrick, Rooney, Shaw and Smalling called up for England duty

Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Michael Carrick have all been called up by Roy Hodgson for England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia and a friendly versus Scotland.

Shaw has been recalled to the senior squad having helped the U21s qualify for next summer’s European Championships while Smalling and Carrick both make their return after injuries.

The inclusion of Carrick concerns United fans given that he only recently made his first appearance of the season and the last thing the squad needs is another injury to contend with. That being said, there could be a benefit for Carrick if he can get some competitive football under his belt and return to Carrington without injury as it will help him on the road to regaining his full match fitness.
