De Gea earns Spain call-up but Mata omitted again

David de Gea has been called up to the Spain national squad for their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers but there is once again no room for Juan Mata.

Having made his full senior debut in the last international break, De Gea is now working his way towards becoming Spain’s No.1 goalkeeper and although Vicente Del Bosque will give Iker Casillas every chance to redeem himself, with De Gea in the form of his life it will be hard for Del Bosque to overlook him.

As for Mata, it’s a major setback for him and the second time in succession he has been left out of the Spain squad.

Having had ample opportunity to impress against the likes of West Brom and Chelsea, Mata failed to deliver and as soon as Rooney was available for selection again he was drafted straight back into the team.

Mata now faces a battle to work himself back into contention for both his club and country.
