Daley Blind set for centre-back role against Crystal Palace – report

Louis van Gaal could use Daley Blind in a centre-back role against Crystal Palace today alongside Paddy McNair with Michael Carrick coming in as the midfield anchor, according to reports.

With so many defensive injuries, Manchester United are going to have to field a makeshift back four for the second game in a row following the City game.

Smalling’s red card compounded United’s lack of options and although Carrick was used as a centre-back against City, Blind is a natural defender who is far more comfortable playing at centre-back than Carrick.

Although Carrick is happy to play wherever Van Gaal asks him to, it would certainly be a logical decision to use Blind in a deeper role as it will allow both him and Carrick to play in more natural positions.

Either way, it will be the first time the personnel in United’s defence lines up alongside each other. Van Gaal hasn’t been able to find the stability at the back which is so vital for any team and today is no different.
