Kevin Strootman played his first game for AS Roma in eight months last night having come on as a substitute in their 3-0 win over Torino.
The Dutch midfielder damaged his knee ligaments last season and subsequently missed Holland’s World Cup campaign but has been able to return on schedule, much to the delight of Roma boss Rudi Garcia.
“We’ve got Strootman back and that makes us all very happy,” Garcia said after the game.
Roma also welcomed Strootman back with a message on their official Twitter account:

United were heavily linked with a future move for Strootman throughout the summer due to Louis van Gaal‘s admiration of the midfielder and now that he is back in action, expect those links to gather even more pace.
United’s prerogative is undoubtedly to strengthen the defence with new signings but we’ll be tracking the progress of Strootman to see how he performs after his return from injury.
