Here’s a round-up of the latest Manchester United chat and transfer talk including murmurs of a new deal for Robin van Persie and a renewed interest in Barcelona’s Gerard Pique.
The Express are running an article, based on the Daily Star reports, which suggest Robin van Persie could be handed a new deal as there are doubts over the long-term fitness of Radamel Falcao.
Van Persie’s current United deal expires in 2016 so he still has two years left on the contract and given how poor he has been so far this season, there is very little to suggest he deserves any discussions surrounding a new deal. First and foremost, he has to prove this year that he is still capable of performing at the highest level for United.
As for Falcao, the Colombian has reacted angrily to stories published in the British press about having to use ice packs on his knee, stories which called into question the likeliness of United taking him on a long-term contract. Regardless of the true reasons behind it, Falcao’s fitness has so far eluded him at Old Trafford and that needs to change if there is any chance of a permanent deal.
The Mirror are reporting that Gerard Pique is on the radar amid upcoming crisis talks with Barcelona due to his relationship with manager Luis Enrique. United are in need of experienced defenders and ex-Red Pique certainly fits the bill in that respect.
