Louis van Gaal played down the suggestion Valdes, who is currently a free agent, could join United in January or the summer but with Anders Lindegaard’s future in doubt, there could soon be space for a new second choice goalkeeper at United.
Having been given his debut by Van Gaal, Valdes is more than accustomed to the Dutchman’s style of play and having another Spaniard in the camp is obviously going down well with those already in the team.
“I speak regularly with Víctor Valdés, he’s training with us,” Mata explained.
“We’re waiting to see what his plans are.”
If Valdes joined then United would have their own Spanish armada alongside De Gea, Mata and Herrera, although there are plenty more Spanish speaking players as well such as Di Maria, Falcao and Rojo.
Earlier this week Valdes confirmed he was closing in on his return to fitness, so maybe it won’t be too long before we know if he will be joining United.
