Robin van Persie ruled out of Holland’s friendly against Mexico

by Sam Peoples

Robin van Persie will take no part in Holland’s friendly against Mexico this week after Guus Hiddink confirmed he is suffering from a minor injury.

The Dutchman has struggled with his fitness all season for Manchester United and although he hasn’t officially been ruled out with any injury, it’s clear he isn’t playing with complete freedom and comfort.

Having had a stuttering start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, Holland need to win their next game against Latvia on Sunday but for the friendly this week against Mexico, Van Persie will play no part.

“Van Persie is not quite fit,” Hiddink said.

“He trained today, but he did not fully participate. I don’t think he will be used against Mexico.”

The Guardian reports Van Persie has had no less than 14 different injuries since joining United back in 2012 and that is a large amount when you consider he stayed almost injury free for his first full year with United.

Van Persie trained away from Holland’s main group today but could play against Latvia on the weekend if he is able to overcome his problems and with Arsenal away next weekend, the 31-year-old striker will be itching to get as fit as possible.
