De Gea and Valdes have been team-mates before away on international duty with Spain and now that he is ready to return, Valdes will be working closely with De Gea in training.
Many saw Valdes’ arrival at Old Trafford as an ominous sign that all is not secure for De Gea’s future at United with Real Madrid interest in him but De Gea welcomed the decision by United’s boss.
“He is working very hard and will soon return to play,” De Gea told El Pais.
“I agreed that Van Gaal offered him help. We have a good medical service here and very good facilities.”
Far from sealing De Gea’s fate at Old Trafford, Valdes’ arrival should actually help him get even better because the experienced 32-year-old will be able to offer a lot of sound advice for De Gea.
Having been given his debut by Van Gaal, Valdes knows exactly what his philosophy is all about and having been part of a Barcelona side which was one of the greatest club teams ever in football, he should be able to teach De Gea a thing or two.
