Timothy Fosu-Mensah makes Manchester United debut

by Sam Peoples

Timothy Fosu-Mensah made his long awaited debut for Manchester United today with the U18s in a 2-0 defeat to Everton.

The 17-year-old had been waiting for international clearance to play for United having joined in the summer and although he was on the wrong end of a defeat, it marks what has been a great month for him.

As well as making his debut for United, Fosu-Mensah captained Holland’s U17s to qualification for the upcoming European Championships and was also named in a top European talents list which looked at the best prospects from all corners of Europe.

United’s academy has brought through some fantastic attacking talents in recent years such as Adnan Januzaj and James Wilson but top class defenders are a rarer find.

There is some real excitement about Fosu-Mensah’s potential having been schooled at Ajax where Daley Blind also learned his trade and we’ll be following his progress to see how he gets on with the U18s and U21s this season at United.
