Di Maria says he always dreamed of playing for Manchester United

Angel di Maria has endeared himself to Manchester United fans with his performances on the pitch as well as off it.

You’d have forgiven the Argentinian for starting off slowly after completing a £59.7m move to Old Trafford this summer but Di Maria has been nothing short of electric.

Off the pitch, Di Maria really does sound happy with life at United and speaking to Fox Sports ahead of Argentina’s friendly against Portugal, he made it clear how much he appreciates the fans and his new club in general.

“I get goosebumps (when Stretford End sings ‘Argentina’), it makes me happy that fans appreciate all the sacrifice we do in the pitch,” he said.

Di Maria followed in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham in wearing United’s famous No.7 shirt, and he belongs in it.

Every time Di Maria has the ball at his feet the excitement builds and that’s what the No.7 shirt has been synonymous with over the years – game changing players.

He continued: “It’s a beautiful thing (Old Trafford and Manchester United), the fans and the environment every time you step into the pitch is unique.

“I always dreamed of playing here and to wear this iconic shirt makes me happy.”

Di Maria was also clear in what he felt United’s objectives were this season: “Our main objective is to get back to the top and qualify to the Champions League next year, is all we want.

“We have to keep working hard to improve, Louis van Gaal is always pushing us to get better and try to grab points away from Old Trafford. We want to win.

“In the Premier League one day you’re good and the other day you’re bad. We have a great team and coaching staff so we are going to get.”
