Rafael and Jones ruled out of Arsenal game

Manchester United have confirmed Rafael and Phil Jones will both miss the game against Arsenal on Saturday having failed to overcome injuries.

Rafael and Jones have both been absent for the last few United games and it was hoped one or both could return in time for Arsenal but that is not the case.

Antonio Valencia has filled in at right-back in Rafael’s absence to varying degrees of success but up against a mobile and pacey Arsenal front line, he’ll have to be very switched on to make sure he is positionally spot on, otherwise he’ll leave gaps in behind him just like he did against Manchester City before Chris Smalling got sent off.

Jones’ absence is not a surprise and it makes you wonder just how badly he must have hurt himself in training to be ruled out for three weeks.

With both Rafael and Jones missing, United will once again be playing with a makeshift back four and up against an Arsenal side who always pride themselves on incisive passing in the final third, it’s going to be a tricky game for United.
