Kevin Strootman has revealed he feels obliged to impress Louis van Gaal whenever he is playing in front of him.
Van Gaal’s admiration for Strootman as a midfielder is well documented and what is clear now is that the admiration is mutual between the pair.
In an extract from Hugo Borst’s biography ‘O Louis’, Strootman explained how his relationship with Van Gaal was such that he didn’t want to let him down.
“With him looking on, whether it’s during a training session or in a packed stadium, it’s not a matter of me wanting the ball,” he said.
“No, I’ve got to have it. It is mine. It’s like an obligation I have to Van Gaal.”
In ‘O Louis’, Borst suggests Strootman is very keen on a United move and has already shaken hands with Van Gaal over a deal.
Whether or not that is true remains to be seen but as we’ve discussed on more than one occasion, Strootman is going to be linked with United all the way through until he either joins or categorically and publicly rejects the idea altogether.
Either way, Strootman’s admiration for Van Gaal and vice versa is likely to keep this Man Utd transfer rumour going for some time.
