Manchester United overcame a wave of pressure from Arsenal to walk away from the Emirates with three points thanks to a Kieran Gibbs own goal and a second from captain Wayne Rooney as Louis van Gaal claimed his first away win as manager of the reds.
Yet again van Gaal had to put out a threadbare defence as the manager reverted to the tried and tested 3-5-2 formation used earlier in the season. An injury early on to Luke Shaw complicated things further and the visitors had David De Gea to thank for going in at the break all square.
An own goal from Gibbs meant Manchester United were ahead without having a shot on target but Rooney saw to that when he ran through to chip home for 2-0. Olivier Giroud’s stoppage time effort made it a tense finale but the away side held on for a win which moves them into the top four.
Here’s a selection of images from the victory.
