Ancelotti happy with Chicharito progress at Real Madrid

by Richard Laverty

Carlo Ancelotti has praised on loan striker Javier Hernandez for the form he has shown since arriving at the Bernabeu at the end of the summer transfer window.

After a poor season under David Moyes, Hernandez started Manchester United’s opening game of the new season under Louis van Gaal but was substituted after another ineffectual performance.

Hernandez joined Real Madrid on loan and like with so many players a change of scenery seemed to do the Mexican a world of good. The 26-year old scored twice on his debut in an emphatic 8-2 victory against Deportivo. Both came from outside the area, one a rasping left-footed volley into the top corner of the net.

Speaking to Real Madrid’s in house media, Ancelotti said: “It’s positive, because the few times he has played he has done very well. He is in good shape physically, and is ready.”

Hernandez became popular at Old Trafford for his ability to find himself in the right place at the right time in the penalty area and rarely ever hit the back of the net from outside the area.

After a superb first season where Hernandez gradually pushed his way into the first XI, the striker tailed off and struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford after Sir Alex Ferguson‘s departure in 2013.

Hernandez may end up earning himself a permanent move to Madrid if he continues to score when picked but if not he’d be welcomed back to Old Trafford if he can recapture his old form.
