Manchester United have made contact with the agent of young Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva about a move to the Premier League, according to the player’s agent.
Luiz Rocha hasn’t exactly been quiet in linking his clients name to several top European clubs and has also name-dropped Real Madrid and Inter Milan as potential suitors.
“There aren’t many details,” said Rocha.
“I confirm I was contacted by people linked to Manchester United and Inter Milan. There are no official bids. We are waiting.”
It could be a classic case of an agent and indeed a club trying to drum up some interest in their player but the links go back as far as the summer when the same agent once again linked Silva with a move to Old Trafford.
Lucas Silva’s agent also said something very similar earlier this year when discussing potential interest from United.
Silva is just 21 and is seen as quite the talent in his home country of Brazil, making regular appearances for his club Cruzeiro and also receiving call-ups for the Brazilian youth teams.
Whether there is actual concrete interest remains unknown given there is little news from United’s end of things. Also, the fact the club and player’s agent tend to pop up a few times every year to drop several different teams into the rumour mill each time doesn’t help.
However, given United’s supposed willingness to explore the South American market, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise if the links were genuine.
