If you had told Manchester United fans at the start of the season that Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia could start a match together as wing-backs, they’d have laughed in fear.
However, it’s looking like a plausible situation going into the game against Hull City on Saturday thanks to injuries.
Young’s decent cameo against Arsenal in the wing-back position was impressive and he played well there during the pre-season. As for Valencia, there is no alternative unless Rafael is fit.
In the middle, Ander Herrera may miss out once again to Marouane Fellaini unless Louis van Gaal feels United will need his incisive passing from the start.
Up front, Robin van Persie has to be dropped for James Wilson or a returning Radamel Falcao. It’s time he is benched because he simply hasn’t been good enough. Maybe some time out of the first team will make him re-evaluate and come back stronger.
