Manchester United will likely be without defensive trio Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Rafael against Hull City this weekend.
Jones hasn’t appeared for United since the 2-2 draw with West Brom after suffering with shin splints and despite coming through an U21s match during the week, it appears Jonny Evans won’t be involved either.
Louis van Gaal didn’t mention either directly in his Friday press conference but referenced Marcos Rojo and Radamel Falcao as the ‘only ones who could come in’, seemingly ruling out all three from the Hull game.
The case of Rafael is a more curious one. The Brazilian was seen training in full with his team mates over a week ago and it appeared the popular right-back would at least be fit for the Hull match.
But Van Gaal didn’t mention Rafael during his press conference and United fans can only hope some better news comes later in the day regarding the 24-year old.
With Luke Shaw‘s return to the medical room, Van Gaal finds himself once again in the unenviable position of being without four first choice defenders with Marcos Rojo still not fully fit after dislocating his shoulder.
Stoke City visit Old Trafford on Tuesday night and despite the two games being in such close proximity to each other, United supporters will hope there is some better news after the weekend regarding the missing defenders.
