Earlier in the week rumours began to surface that the left-back may miss the rest of 2014 but Van Gaal seemed to silence those stories and remained confident Shaw would return before the new year.
“There is no serious complications,” said van Gaal at this Friday press conference.
“He has sustained an ankle ligament injury. He will be out for the next few weeks because of this.”
However, the injury is still a blow given United’s lack of cover in defence and the fact the 19-year old was really beginning to hit some form after an injury-plagued beginning to his Old Trafford career.
Shaw impressed in big games against Chelsea and Manchester City and put in a man of the match against Crystal Palace two week ago before picking up his latest injury last weekend in the victory over Arsenal.
The left-back rolled his ankle just ten minutes into the match and despite it appearing as if he would be able to continue, Shaw was replaced by Ashley Young and with no left-back cover available, Young may once again replace Shaw against Hull City.
