Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria has been named on the FIFPro shortlist along with 14 other midfielders all vying for a place in the team for 2014.
Overall, 55 players have been nominated but after a poor season for the club under David Moyes, the former Real Madrid man is United’s only representative on the list thanks to his form for Real Madrid and Argentina last season.
Di Maria was influential in Real Madrid’s Champions League winning campaign and played a big part in their victory in the final against rivals Atletico. He set up Gareth Bale for the second goal of the game which put Real ahead in extra-time.
The 26-year old replicated his club form in Brazil during the World Cup by helping his team reach the final and scoring a crucial goal in the 118th minute of their second round match against Switzerland.
Unfortunately for Di Maria injury meant he missed the final against Germany but he arrived at Old Trafford and immediately showed United fans why he was seen as such a key man for both club and country.
The Argentinian scored three goals in his first four games for the club and has several assists to his name since his £59.7m move to Old Trafford in the summer. Di Maria faces stiff competition for a place in the final FIFPro XI including ex-Manchester United player Paul Pogba.
