Rafael has revealed he is ready to return to full training with Manchester United today.
Louis van Gaal told reporters on Friday that Rafael wasn’t fit enough to face Hull City this weekend but the Brazilian insists he is now able to push forward with training in order to regain his match fitness.
Antonio Valencia has played at right-back in his absence and although his performances have been good, United’s threat from the right flank has certainly diminished without Rafael’s buccaneering runs.
Rafael is one player which United’s squad hasn’t been able to properly replace. Valencia is not a natural right-back and Van Gaal has decided not to use the likes of Marnick Vermijl or Saidy Janko in the Premier League.
It’s not just Rafael’s solid defending which has been missed but the danger he poses in attack. Rafael is a real threat in the final third and his energy helps create space for others to run into as well.
Ahead of a busy festive period, Van Gaal would be glad to have his first choice right-back available for selection again.
