Louis van Gaal is happy with the progress Radamel Falcao is making with his fitness and is now keen for him to build up his match sharpness.
As is the case with any player returning from injury, it’s never simply about being fit to play because the intensity of the Premier League is so much higher than in training.
Falcao looked very comfortable when he came on as a substitute at the weekend and the Colombian is in line to start against Stoke tomorrow, which would certainly go some way to helping him regain his rhythm.
“He was not fit to play 90 minutes, but for 20 minutes okay,” Van Gaal said.
“I can use him because now he has trained for a full week with the first team. He needs match rhythm.”
Falcao was treated to a heroes welcome by the Old Trafford crowd and he nearly delivered his second goal for the club but a last ditch block from Michael Dawson stopped his shot from going on.
The Colombian has been working hard on his fitness at Carrington and with a busy festive schedule now upon us, it could be the time where he finally shows why he is considered one of the best strikers in the world.
