Manchester United are waiting for Wayne Rooney to have a scan on his knee to find out if he has a chance of being fit for Southampton next Monday.
Rooney was on the wrong end of some tough challenges against Hull City on Saturday and clashed with the advertising hoardings just before full-time.
Having visited Bridgewater Hospital yesterday, Rooney is set to undergo further tests to see the extend of his injury.
“It’s his knee, but we have to wait for tomorrow to say anything about him because you never know with a knee,” said Van Gaal in his post-match press conference.
“My opinion is it is not so heavy (serious) but I am not a doctor. So we have to wait for the scan then we will know more. But I hope it is not so heavy.”
Van Gaal will certainly be concerned about Rooney’s fitness ahead of Southampton next Monday as well as the derby against Liverpool in 11 days time.
Rooney was in a great run of form prior to this injury so fans are hoping he will be able to get straight back into the groove when he is able to return.
