Manchester United are chasing Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne with rumours that Liverpool are also looking at the highly-rated defender.
Clyne, 23, was linked with a move to Old Trafford whilst he was at Crystal Palace but the constant improvement of Rafael Da Silva meant United looked at other positions and Clyne joined Southampton.
The right-back made his England debut last month and has seemingly overtaken both Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker in the pecking order for his country.
With doubts rising over Rafael’s ability to shake off his tag as an injury prone player, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were to make a move for Clyne whose contract runs out in 18 months.
The Telegraph are also reporting that United’s scouts have watched Clyne on more than one occasion and there is certainly growing interest in him.
Southampton themselves are understood to be concerned about the possibility of Clyne running his contract down and leaving on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Clyne will have seen his team mates move on to the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal in the summer but the Saints had a plan in place and made sure they got good money for their key players, so to lose Clyne on a free would be a big blow.
