Powell, 20, failed to impress Pearson enough to force his way into his first-team plans and apart from a few substitute appearances, Powell has been very much in the background with Leicester.
It would be a massive disappointment if Powell hadn’t been applying himself enough to make the most of his opportunities. Last year on loan at Wigan Athletic, Powell was superb in the Championship and Europa League, yet he has failed to kick on this season and improve.
If Powell were to return earlier than expected, United would more than likely look at sending him back out on loan again because what he now needs is regular football like he was getting at Wigan last season apart from when he was injured.
There’s no question Powell has the raw potential to become a fantastic footballer but he is yet to fully apply it in the Premier League, although he has plenty of time left to improve given that he is only 20.
