Football publication FourFourTwo have released their list of the Top 100 Footballers in the World.
As expected, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list for a second consecutive year. Barcelona’s Lionel Messi came in third place, with Philipp Lahm securing the second spot.
In total, Manchester United players made up seven of the top 100 list. In the Premier League, only Chelsea had more players on the list with eight.
The lowest ranking for a Manchester United player was #82 for David De Gea, who was shortly followed by Juan Mata at #78.
Daley Blind was named #65 and Wayne Rooney broke into the top 50 at #49. Robin Van Persie was just four places above the captain at #45, which is a significant drop from the year before. In 2013, Van Persie was ranked the 9th best player in the world by FourFourTwo.
Radamel Falcao comes in at #39 and it is no shock that Manchester United’s highest ranked player is Angel Di Maria. Di Maria was placed #9 on the list and has also been nominated for the Ballon d’Or and UEFA Team of the Year in recent weeks.
If transfer rumours are anything to go by, some of the players who have been linked to a move to Manchester United have also been nominated.
